Inspired by a description of the ingredients used in creating the favourite snuff of Charlotte of Mecklenburg-Strelitz, wife of George III.

Queen Charlotte was an inveterate snuff taker and historical records tell us that her favourite was flavoured with Bitter Almonds, Attar Ghul - the Persian for Attar of Roses, and that Ambergris was added to enhance the flavours.

Röslein is a moist, demi gros snuff made from Sumatra leaf flavoured with pure attar of roses from Isparta in Turkey, ameretto di saronno lazzaroni from Italy and ambergris from the Chatham Isles.

Weigh, Hey Up She Rises!

Roslein is one of the most unique snuffing experiences I've ever had. Upon opening the tin you're greeted with the delicate scent of high-quality perfume. While I am not generally a fan of floral snuffs (sorry Rows of Sharrow), Roslein elevated the bouquet of flowers to something beyond overpowering potpourri. The fine, moist powder felt rich and luxurious, just like the aroma out of the tin and in the nostrils. Mixed with the smell of flowers is vanilla, ground fennel, and sweet almond, balanced out by a salty, musky, earthiness. This latter quality is no doubt the fruit of the ambergris used in the construction of this regal snuff. One sniff and you'll see why the qualities of this whale product have never been matched. Simply put, you won't find a snuff of this sophistication anywhere outside of Sir Walter Scott's.

Old tin?

Maybe I just got an old tin..since it's not moist at all like everyone says it is. There was also zero resistance when I opened it for the first time, as if it was opened before. Not much scent at all which is disappointing since it's expensive. Was excited to try this and am very disappointed...

My love

This one just gets me and I fight with Anson Imp and cream de fig but she always does it for me . Realizing Amonds roses and God knows ambergris is bring some earthly who knows what to call it to the mix . I just buy the big tins now on

Sir Walter Scott's Roslein Snuff 15g

It's difficult to say today how extent is compatible with snuff created for Queen Charlotte, but it is still the highest form of championship craft of snuff, enclosed in a minimalist form of can. 100/100 and my humble opinion, one of the two best snuffs, from Sir Walter Scott.

Truly Exquisite. One of the finest snuffs I have ever had the pleasure of trying. Like nothing I have ever sampled before. You need to try this stuff!
