Viking Thors Hammer has a medium-coarse grind with moderate moisture and medium nicotine strength. The tasting notes include leather, hay, natural tobacco, and earthy elements, with an initial ammonia note that settles into barnyard and leather aromas. The colour is brown with a mottled appearance.

The blend uses dark-fired Virginia leaf, which contributes smoky notes along with bread and oat undertones. The snuff has a tonka note and burnt elements in the flavour profile. Despite the strong nicotine content, it handles well and takes easily.

This snuff contains a moderate amount of vitamin N, which can be safely used throughout the day to provide a nice and lasting boost in your step. The moisture content is ample, and with the medium-fine grind and texture, this makes it an easy-to-use snuff that sits well in the nose and is easy to pinch. The tobacco presents as a rich, darker brown blend with some speckled tan.

This is a beginner-friendly snuff that is not metholated and does not have artificial scents, and as such can appeal to a wide range of snuffers. Though I favour more scented snuffs and will be using this as a blending agent, I can easily see plain and fermented snuff enjoyers finding a place in their rotations for Thors Hammer.

Out of the tin, Thor's Barnyard wastes no time. You're hit straightaway with caustic ammonia, the kind you don't smell so much as feel, with an almost acrid scent to the nose. It's the scent you know if you've ever stepped into a barn after a summer rain, with the Texas sun cooking the earth and everything on it. Sharp, humid, and organic in a way that's hard to forget. In the nose, the profile doesn't let up. A musky blend of hay, funk, and raw ammonia takes centre stage. There's a flicker of smoked earth that drifts in and out, but it never fully settles. The experience is more about sensation than scent nuance, like that of a cowboy in a Texas saloon, bracing, gritty, and animalistic.

This isn't a snuff for everyone, but maybe that's the point. There's value in expanding the palate, and for those interested in blending, this might be a worthy base to experiment with. It brings to mind the trail dust and cattle pens of a long-gone drive. No burn, no post-drip to speak of. What you get is a long-lasting barnyard linger, with a final exhale of hay and distant smoke. It's rough, raw, and rooted deep in the dirt. Worth a try if you want to know just how far the world of snuff can stretch.
