Dr. Rumney's Green has a medium-fine grind with slightly moist texture and medium-high nicotine strength. The primary note is anise, with supporting notes of camphor, menthol, and eucalyptus. Secondary floral notes include rose, bergamot, and lavender.

The tobacco base is medium brown in colour and has a sweet, smoky character with dark undertones. A citrus note appears with the natural tobacco flavour. The blend maintains moderate moisture levels without being oiled.

Dr. Rumney's Green comes out of the tin with a bold note of anise that hits the nose first, cool, sharp, and unmistakably medicinal. But behind that, there's more at play. As the scent settles, floral traces begin to stir soft rose, maybe a touch of bergamot, before the tobacco base finally anchors everything with a steady, earthy finish. The medicated nature here is quieter than something like JIP!, but with less blast and more nuance. Eucalyptus and camphor are present, but they don't announce themselves loudly. They hum in the background, supporting the anise without crowding it. What you get instead is a blend that feels composed, structured around licorice-like sharpness with just enough aromatic lift to keep the profile dancing on the nose.

The grind is medium fine, a hair coarser than an English snuff, with a light brown tobacco colour and moderate moisture content. As you go in for a second or third pinch, the floral notes come into better focus. They don't overwhelm, they hover just behind the dominant anise, adding dimension without turning the blend into a perfume. The tobacco itself leans hearty and refined, rounding things out with a touch of tobacco. This snuff leans to the high end of nicotine with some nose burn. The menthol and other agents help mask the burn. There is a hearty amount of Vitamin N. The medicated notes help mitigate burn, which in turn allows for larger doses, which, for me, lead to more nicotine intake due to how easy this snuff was to use.

The old-world flavours of anise and licorice, when added to a strong metholated background, can make this snuff overpower the nose if not handled with care. I've found Dr. Rumney's Green to be a reliable choice during long stretches of work or as a mid-morning reset. It's a medicated snuff with more depth than an overwhelming menthol blast. If you've ever appreciated anise-forward blends and want something hearty yet balanced, this one deserves a spot in your rotation.
