Golden Virginia snuff with port or coffee

A go-to for shop-bought tobacco: Golden Virginia rolling tobacco, dried, ground and moistened with port, coffee or both. It works with odds and ends of tobacco too, from whole leaf to old cigars.

Equipment
Coffee grinderFor turning dried leaf or rolling tobacco into a fine powder.Mortar and pestleFor grinding small amounts by hand, crushing salt and alkalis to a fine dust, and working scent or moisture evenly into snuff.Mixing bowlFor stirring liquids into ground tobacco and letting it sit while it takes up moisture.Airtight jarsFor resting snuff while it develops, and for storing it afterwards.

Notes
The original post gives no amounts, because the liquid goes in to taste. There's no bicarbonate or salt, since rolling tobacco has already been processed. Keep notes of what you used so you can make a batch you like again.
